These little Easter baskets were made from some left-over tubes that were lying around. They were pretty easy to make and quick work too..

Of course, they don't serve any purpose given their size 😄 But are super cute to look at, so may be I will end up making more of these!!

With the wedding season upon us, my very creative sister-in-law was asked to make some flower baskets and a bridal bouquet for an upcoming wedding. She handled the bouquet while I worked on the flower basket. The newspaper one was the first trial. But once I finished it, I came to know that the flower girls were gonna be really small kids and the basket would be too big for them. So I tried another basket, this time using the wedding colours of pink, cream and white.

Here's a closer view of the second basket. It was pretty rudimentary, since it was, after all, a trial. My main worry was the proportion of the basket to the handle and how well the colour theme worked out. Satin pink ribbons, grosgrain pink polka dot ribbons and gold ribbons ensured that the basket turned out very well. So now, all that is left is making 6 flower baskets for 6 little girls.

Finally, a close-up of the bigger basket. The gaps in the basket would be where we would thread the ribbon. The challenge for the flower basket was that there was no form or shape that I could use to help make the basket. So for making the wide end of the basket, I had only pictures to go by. Thankfully at the end, I got the hang of it. It is not really symmetrical, I know, but at least I know how to do it and hopefully with my experience, I will end up making symmetrical flower baskets 😃

After my Christmas bells made from newspaper tubes, I have been working with a fair amount of enthusiasm, on a rather large project! Making a trash can!!

It has been a fairly large project for me, because everything about this is new! I am new to newspaper weaving, so rolling the tubes itself is a challenge. The shape I have chosen is also new - till date, I have only attempted round structures, so a square is another challenge. Then there is the painting - as you can see, I have used lavender, green and white tubes. The white tubes were tricky because they weren't as bright white as I wanted them to be; hopefully I will get there in my next few attempts. Finally, I am not sure how clear it is, but I have used lavender/white paper beads around the middle of the basket. For some time I had the feeling that I had bitten off more than I could chew, but finally, I managed to complete the basket 😀 And really really proud of what I have done. I do realise there are a lot of faults, but at least I completed it!! So yay me!!

The first time I saw pics of this basket on google, I badly wanted to make it, but couldn't find the instructions anywhere. And when I finally found them a few days back on bloomize (link below), I just had to try them out and they came out quite well too..

These baskets look best when made in double sided paper that is thicker than the regular origami paper. The basket came out well, though I had some problem making the handle and finally had to resort to glue. The orange and white basket is made from single sided paper. Both the baskets were made from 10 inch paper and as you can see, it came out quite big and broad.

And in addition to being cute, they also serve well as Easter baskets and for carrying little toys :)

Quite a few origami baskets are very simple to make and have a utilitarian value as well. And since my last post on baskets, a few of my friends wanted me to try out some simple baskets. They are pretty new to origami, so keeping it simple was my aim.

The first basket I tried out was this simple Easter basket. It comes complete with a handle. Glue the handle in place so that it can be used to carry little eggs.

The next is a very cute Pointed Basket that I found on Youtube. I loved making this one, since it was quite easy to make, but it should be creased properly and accurately. It looks good when made with a big piece of paper. I used a square of 10 inches for this one. Rather than a regular basket, I think this will make a great bread basket.

The last basket that I tried was one that we had done as kids. We used to use these bags to carry small stuffed toys. Quite easy to make. The handle needs to be glued so it does not keep popping out.
